TENP Trustees respond to draft Community Plan

During March, and at short notice, the TENP Trustees managed to respond to the draft Community Plan. (click here to see response). The final draft will shortly be available once it has been agreed by the members of the Community Plan Leadership Partnership (CPLP)  and ‘signed off’ by the County Council as the ‘responsible body’. The plan will then be delivered to the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) during April.

As soon as we have a copy of the final draft we will put it on this site. Once received by WAG the CPLP members, led by the County Council, are committed to a process of community engagement to agree a set of ‘actions’ under each  policy theme. This is a ‘key’ opportunity for TENP Members to have a say and influence what happens locally over the next 15 years.

As soon as we know about the programme of community engagement we will place it on this site and circulate it to TENP members.

PEMBROKESHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL CONSIDERS RENEWABLE ENERGY OPTIONS.

PCC Chief Officer and Member are currently discussing a policy paper, which considers a range of high impact renewable energy options that the County Council might adopt in the future.

This is good news for the environment and an important step to achieving a Sustainable County : TENP’s key aim.

The ‘driver’ for the County Councils discussions is the UK’s Carbon Reduction Commitment, which comes into effect in 2010. This will require all large energy users to reduce their C02 emissions. Failure to do so will lead to financial penalties (the approach is similar to the land fill tax levy for waste). For more information go to: www.lga.gov.uk/lga/publications/publication-display.do?id=1933844.

While TENP is often constructively critical of the County Council’s failure to adopt Sustainable Development principles in its policies and practices we are also keen to promote ‘good news’.

PCC has already approved the turning off of street lights, from midnight to 5am, as a way of saving energy and money.

The new Portfield Special School has received a ‘A’ rating for energy efficiency, one of the first in Wales. We are assured that all new buildings, at the ‘drawing board stage, being considered by PCC are ‘A’ rated designs.

Clearly funding for capital investment is a major concern for all public bodies but energy saving is good for the environment and the public purse.

The UK’s Energy White papers, (published on the 15th July) provides more details on ‘Feed In Tariffs (Clean Energy Cash Back) which are expected to provide a major boost to investment in renewable energy with the potential, if grasped, to reduce C02, and create jobs locally.

TENP responses to the two recent LDP consultations are shown below. The first one is the National Park Authority response by TENP can be read here . The second one is the Pembrokeshire County Council scheme response by TENP and can be read here .

It should be noted that a number of TENP members and other interested groups and individuals have made individual submissions and that TENP can pass the details of those responses to anyone wishing to see them, just contact Marc Mordey please.

It has been brought to our attention that it is possible show where all the recycled waste goes and Somerset is leading the way. See attached details.
